radio happenings
I scored a prime sub slot, 8-10pm on Tuesday July 4th. I always do a freedom theme show for the day and this year I have two. Now, I will have no problem whatsoever finding 5 hours of my favorite freedom songs. Still I'll be happy to take suggestions. I'm thinking of starting with "Woke Up This Morning with My Mind on Freedom" and closing with "Our America" by Big & Rich, but in between ain't so clear yet. I've been listening a whole lot to the wonderful jazz and soul of the 60s and 70s, you remember when we all were really excited about The Future and wallowing in the search for peace love and enlightenment. So Roy Ayres and Curtis Mayfield will probably make appearances too.
I have a double header on Sunday July 16th -- Who's Got the Cuckoo? our garage rock show at 9.30pm, and the Mystery Show at 10.30pm, which of course will be more madcap 33@45. My theme for the Cuckoo will be Lies. There are tons of great garage rock songs about lies, lying, and liars. Then there's the Lyres in case I run out of lies to tell. Dunno if I'll have a theme for 33@45, except maybe it's time to finally realize the notion of all your favorite cheesy synthpop hits of the 80s, which all work great at higher speeds. Suggestions for both shows are also hereby solicited. I hope to continue the tradition of receiving one totally genius request, which has happened the last three times I have done 33@45.
